Description: Sail your boat through the lock at the Sault Ste. Marie Canal, or do your exploring of this fascinating site on foot. Learn how this Canal – once boasting the longest lock in the world and the first one powered by electricity – allowed ships, and now pleasure craft, to bypass the rapids caused by a change in elevation in the St. Marys River. Free entry to our Visitor Centre, gift shop, washrooms, parking, walking and biking trails. Fat Bikes available for hourly rental. Full guided site tours available for a small fee. The Lock, Visitor Centre and washrooms are closed from Mid October to Mid May, but the site still open to the public to enjoy the exterior exhibits, grounds and trails.
